Tika Ram Poudel is currently a doctoral student at the Feline Research Center of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, College of Wildlife and Protected Area, Northeast Forestry University, Harbin, China. He received his Master’s degree from GoldenGate International College, Kathmandu, Nepal, in 2020. During his Master’s degree poudel worked on human-wildlife conflict (HWC) in the Trans-Himalayan region of Nepal, focusing on the habitat of wild prey and carnivores, availability of livestock, impacts of livestock grazing on habitat, and the level of human disturbance in the conservation area. In doing so, he constructed several models on different dimensions of depredation including a shed attack model and perceived seriousness of HWC model, and identified traditional methods and sustainable management planning to minimize conflict among local people on the basis of research outcomes.
After completing his Master’s degree, he continued his research on musk deer in the Trans-Himalayan region of Nepal, looking at habitat and diet analysis, forest plot inventory, geographical information, and carbon storage, regeneration pattern, etc. in the community forest in the mid-hill region of Surkhet district. He has been engaged in various other research projects such as butterfly distribution and amphibian survey in Kathmandu Valley and medicinal plant surveys in Myagdi District, etc., from which he acquired skills to manage diverse field work operations with different teams. His primary areas of research interest are ecology, biological conservation, climate change, forestry, and public health, and has published numerous research articles in related areas. Currently, he is focusing his research on conservation of habitat for large carnivores, understanding the spatial ecology of tigers, tree growth and other forestry and wildlife-related research.
